Ocean Conservation Trust - ReMEDIES project Case Study
We produce bags and packaging for a whole variety of businesses, but love working on projects that help give something back to our planet. A lot of brands and businesses that we work with are very environmentally focused, and the Ocean Conservation Trust is one of those.
What is the LIFE Recreation ReMEDIES Project
Seagrass is essential in many ways: it gives a nursery ground to numerous fish stocks and it is as a safe house for numerous marine creatures including seahorses, jellyfish, and many ocean growth. Seagrass also prevents coastal erosion. But seagrass is also critically endangered because of human activities, especially aggressive fishing techniques.
The Ocean Conservation Trust Recreation ReMEDIES Project ambitious goal is to re-establish 4 hectares of lost seagrass in the Plymouth area using seeds transplantations.
The seeds need to be put into little bags in order to protect them whilst they are on the ocean floor, and the seagrass then grows out of the bags.
How Supreme Creations / Bags of Ethics is helping the Ocean Conservation Trust and the ReMEDIES project
At Supreme Creations, we have created these small drawstring bags to house the seeds and we are producing 30,000 bags annually for the Ocean Conservation project.
As the bags need to decompose to allow the seeds to grow, they are fully biodegradable, and so are made from a coarse weave, natural jute fabric, the coarse weave allowing the plants to grow through the weave.
All of our bags, including these, are made in our ethically audited factory in Pondicherry, South India where we only use inks and fabrics that are environment friendly.
